Michael E. Schalberg, of Lancaster and Bradenton, Florida died unexpectedly August 9 in Bradenton.  He was 33.
Born in Amherst, he lived his entire life in Western New York until last month, when he relocated to begin a new career as Assistant Golf Professional at Streamsong Golf Resort in Bowling Green, Florida.
He graduated from the University at Buffalo in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and was currently working toward an MBA degree at D’Youville University.
After graduation, he worked at Ryder Corporation and managed two locations in the area.  He was also previously employed at Sonwil Logistics in the business development division.
Michael played for the Division I UB Bulls Hockey Club in the NECHL from 2012-2015.  He was 1st Team NECHL Forward in 2014, and served as Assistant Captain and Captain during the ’13-’14 and ’14-’15 seasons respectively.  He helped lead the team to the ACHA National Tournament in March 2015.  He was voted Team MVP in his junior and senior seasons.  He was subsequently invited back to the UB Hockey Club as Assistant Coach starting in 2016.
He was also a 20-year member at the Fox Valley Golf Club in Lancaster, and was currently carrying a 5.6 GHIN handicap.  A 2008 cancer survivor, he was recently pursuing training to become a wish grantor with Make a Wish.
Surviving are his parents, Andrew J. Jr and Carol A Schalberg, his sister, Erin Pautler and his brother, Andrew Schalberg III, nieces, nephews and his maternal grandmother.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered September 1 in Our Lady of Pompeii Catholic Church, Lancaster.
