at Arthur J. Haumesser, 90, radio operator during WWII Nov. 9, 1922 – Jan. 17, 2013 Arthur J. Haumesser of Cheektowaga, an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II and retired accountant, died Thursday in Buffalo VA Medical Center. He was 90.

Born in South Buffalo, Mr. Haumesser was a graduate of Canisius High School.

During World War II, he was a radio operator aboard a B-17 Flying Fortress, completing 25 missions in the European Theater. He served with the 15th Air Force’s 463rd Bomb Group.

After the war, Mr. Haumesser earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Canisius College in 1948. He worked 32 years as an accountant at Republic Steel Corp., retiring in 1983.
In retirement, he and his wife, the former Ruth Butz, traveled extensively, including trips to Spain and Portugal.

Mr. Haumesser was a parishioner of Infant of Prague Catholic Church in Cheektowaga, where he served as an usher, Eucharistic minister and helped count Sunday collections.
He also was a member of Pvt. Leonard Post Jr. Post 6251, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors, in addition to his wife of 64 years, include four daughters, Marilyn McMahan, Joanne Shuck, Susan Donatelli and Terese Meehan; and three sons, David, Paul and Martin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 11:30 a.m. Monday in Infant of Prague Church, 921 Cleveland Drive, Cheektowaga.
