Of Snyder, NY passed away peacefully under the care of hospice at The McAuley Residence in Kenmore at the age of 83. Devoted husband for fifty-four years of Jeanne (nee Allen); cherished father of Heather (David) Batt, Edward (Anu), Colin (Lauren), Sarah (Michael) Spillman, and Caitlin (Carter) Cochran; loving grandfather of Dev and Asha Huntley, Theodore, Vivian and Owen Huntley, Delia, James and Miles Spillman and Isla Cochran. Ed also leaves behind a brother, James (Sally) Huntley, and a large extended family and many dear friends. He was pre-deceased by his parents and his sister, Virginia McAuliffe.

Ed was born in Buffalo, NY to his parents Edward and Lillian Huntley on October 5, 1941. When he was a young boy, his parents moved their family to a home in Snyder, where Ed lived for the next seventy-five years, raising his own family and entertaining his grandchildren. He graduated from Amherst Central High School and attended The University of Buffalo. Ed began a career that spanned over three decades at Brand Names Sales beginning in the mid-sixties, first as an assistant store manager and eventually becoming the photographer for the company’s annual sales catalog and print marketing materials.

When Ed was not working, he enjoyed swimming, fishing, and car racing and had an eclectic taste in music ranging from The Everly Brothers and Cat Stevens to Bob Marley and U2. He was involved with the Parents Guild at Christ the King School and served as a eucharistic minister for many years at Christ the King Church. He also volunteered as a coach with Connie Mack Little League for over a decade where he also served as a board member. In addition, Ed served on the board of directors for the West Side Rowing Club for many years before transitioning to the role of director emeritus. Ed will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, knowledge of arcane trivia, and his easy way of talking with anyone he met. He was a master raconteur whose tall tales and campfire stories have been passed down from his children to his grandchildren. Ed was most proud of his children and took every opportunity to teach and nurture them all – from coaching softball, baseball, and crew teams, to helping with cub scouts, officiating rowing regattas, and teaching Confirmation classes. He adored his nine grandchildren, and in his later years enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with them.

The family will receive friends on Friday July 25, from 4-8 PM at Dietrich Funeral Home, 2480 Kensington Avenue, Amherst, NY 14226. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated the following day, Saturday July 26th at Christ the King Church 30 Lamarck Drive, Amherst, NY at 10:00 am. Please assemble at church. Interment will be private.
