Vollmer of Depew, a retired construction equipment sales manager, died unexpectedly Monday in Sisters Hospital St. Joseph Campus, Cheektowaga. He was 82. Born in Cheektowaga, he was a graduate of Bishop Neumann High School and served in the Army in Germany during the Korean War. He earned an associate degree in industrial engineering from Erie Community College. Mr. Vollmer worked in heavy equipment sales for FMC Corp. for 13 years, then joined Rupp Rental & Sales, where he retired as sales manager for construction equipment after 25 years. He was a eucharistic minister at Infant of Prague Catholic Church and a past president, secretary and treasurer of the Buffalo Equipment Dealers Association. He also was a member of the Buffalo Gyro Club. He was an avid bowler and golfer. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, the former Jean Tatu; five daughters, Margaret Holt, Nancy Gregorio, Sue LeRoy, Carol Cleveland and Barbara Garven; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Friday in Infant of Prague Church, 921 Cleveland Drive, Cheektowaga.
