Passed away peacefully at his
residence in Durham, North Carolina
on December 2, 2019, at the age of
90. A visitation will be held at 10 AM
on Friday, August 6, 2021 for Herb
and Marly (Zenner) Forbach, his
wife of 63 years, at the DIETRICH
FUNERAL HOME, 2840 Kensington
Ave., Amherst, NY. A Masonic service
to be held at 11 AM, with prayer service
at 11:30 AM. Interment immediately
following services at the Williamsville
Cemetery. Born in 1929 to Herbert,
Sr. and Edith Forbach, Herb resided
in the Buffalo area for virtually his
entire life, until he and Marly moved
to North Carolina in 2015 to be closer
to their children, and grandchildren. A
graduate of Kensington High School
and Cornell University, Herb served in
the Army during the Korean conflict and
was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s
Badge. Until his retirement, Herb
operated Forbach’s Florist Shop on
Kensington Ave, a business founded
by his grandfather in 1903. Herb was
a source of continuing advice and
counsel on gardening. Always an
outgoing, gregarious person, Herb
was an active Mason for more than 60
years, associated with Renaissance
Lodge #1188, and previously,
Transportation Lodge #842. Marly and
Herb traveled considerably both in the
US and abroad, often in conjunction
with florist association conventions,
and reunions with the Army’s 5th
Regimental Combat Team, his unit in
Korea. In his retirement, Herb could
often be seen driving his beloved 1949
MG TC, a car he owned for 65 years,
around the streets of Amherst. In the
early days, he and Marly would take the
MG to car rallies throughout Western
New York. During his retirement,
they continued to take the MG to
various car club meets, and the MG
followed Herb to North Carolina. Herb
is survived by his daughter Gretchen
(Edward) Castorina of Durham, NC;
granddaughters Olivia and Fiona
Castorina, both of Durham; his son,
Eric (Nancy) Forbach of Leland, NC;
grandson David Forbach of Ashburn,
Virginia, and granddaughter Melissa
(Bryan) Riedel of Beaufort, NC, as well
as numerous nieces and nephews.

Passed away peacefully on August 14,
2019 at the age of 91, in Durham, North
Carolina after a brief illness. Visitation
and memorial services will be held for
Marly and Herb Forbach, Jr., Marly’s
husband of sixty-three years, August
6, 2021 at 10 AM, at the DIETRICH
FUNERAL HOME, 2480 Kensington
Ave., Amherst, NY. Prayers will be
observed at 11:30 AM. Interment
at Williamsville Cemetery will follow
immediately. Born in 1928 to John and
Viola Zenner, Marly resided in Buffalo
for virtually her entire life, until she
and Herb moved to North Carolina in
2015 to be closer to their children and
grandchildren. Marly and Herb were
married at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church
on April 21, 1956. Marly’s daughter
was later married in the same church
by the same minister. A graduate of
Amherst High School, Marly attended
business school and worked as an
administrative assistant in the Amherst
School District for many years.
Throughout her life, Marly stayed in
close touch with her two sisters, Anna
Mae Cromwell and Lorraine Nelson
and their children. Marly remained
active in many volunteer organizations
in Western New York, heading up a
major scholarship fundraiser fashion
show for the Buffalo Federation of
Women’s Clubs in 2000. Marly enjoyed
an active social life with her high school
sorority, bowling, a bridge group, and
dancing, especially swing. In the early
days, Marly and Herb took Herb’s
1949 MG TC to car rallies in Western
New York, and continued to attend
car rallies during retirement. Marly is
survived by her daughter Gretchen
(Edward) Castorina of Durham, NC;
granddaughters Olivia and Fiona
Castorina, both of Durham; her son,
Eric (Nancy) Forbach of Leland, NC;
grandson David Forbach of Ashburn,
Virginia, and granddaughter Melissa
(Bryan) Riedel of Beaufort, NC, as well
as numerous nieces and nephews.
