Jocelyn Jackman
Jackman, Jocelyn (nee Hailpern)
June 19, 1946 – January 14, 2025
Of Buffalo, NY Jocelyn was born in Alexandria, Egypt to Raoul and Fanny Hailpern. From an early age she attended the Lycée francais and trained in classical ballet. She and her sister Doris emigrated with their parents to the US in the early fifties and settled in Buffalo. Jocelyn distinguished herself at the Park School of Buffalo and went on to U.B. where she earned her B.A. and M.A. magna cum laude. During her teaching career she was a much loved and highly respected French teacher at Nichols and Buffalo State. While at Nichols she organized and danced with a modern dance group of female students. She also found time to lead a yoga class at Millard Fillmore night school. Jocelyn met her future husband, Michael, in the early seventies while they were both graduate students at U.B. They were married July 3, 1977. On July 28, 1980 their daughter, Courtney (Andrew) Parker completed the family. They stopped at one because they knew they had hit the jackpot. Courtney and Andrew have two wonderful sons, Wesley 13 and Travis 10, who never got the opportunity to spend enough quality time with their grandmother. It was 2019 when Jocelyn began to exhibit obvious signs of Parkinson’s. She had been a vibrant, active, beautiful woman who loved music, dance, theater, long walks with Courtney, good coffee, the mall, reading, rowing at the WSRC, going to estate sales…
Over the years, the disease progressively robbed her of all her abilities and interests, to the point where she was totally bedridden and unable to do anything herself. At the end, she died in her sleep with Courtney and Michael by her side. The family was together at home, and Jocelyn seemed at peace. She took one big breath and slipped quietly away. It is our hope and belief that she is reunited with her parents and is once again able to enjoy all that Parkinson’s took away. Please share online condolences at www.TheDietrichFuneralHome.com.
Our condolences to the family in the loss of Jocelyn who we met on several occasions in Ilderton. She was an accomplished woman who lived a rich and valued life. We remember her as a vibrant soul. We express our heartfelt sympathy in the loss of Jocelyn.
Peace, peace, peace, beautiful Jocelyn.
The Hailpern were close friends and neighbors of our family in Alexandria, Egypt. Unfortunately, with the political situation with Nasser we all had to immigrate. Nevertheless, we kept in touch over the years and I kept regular contact with Jocelyn’s parents and sister. Her father was a brilliant mathematics professor. The whole family was quite brainy and intelligent. I have fond memories of Jocelyn and her family I heard she was suffering with Parkinson, which robbed her of her health and happiness. My condolences to the family. Baruch Dayan Ha’Emet. Raymond S
Our sympathy to the family. So very sorry for your loss. Not having ever met Jocelyn, but knowing Doris, Josh, and Ashley, it is not surprising that Jocelyn was also a beautiful, kind soul.
Good night, sweet Jocelyn, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest. God bless her soul and give her family comfort and peace.
Dearest Jocelyn, May the pretty purple flowers follow you wherever you are.
Big Love to Michael, Courtney, Wesley, Travis & Doris, Josh and Ashley – So very sorry for the loss.
