Marion STEWART (Vasallo)

STEWART – Marion Vasallo Lapira 85 years of age, January 12, 2010, in Pinecrest, FL, born in Valletta, Malta, beloved wife of the late Major Robert Stewart, USAF; loving mother of Major Robert J. Stewart Jr., USAF (Marge), Christine Poinsette (Gene), Dr. Thomas P. Stewart (Cindy), Paul A. Stewart, Trish Blaha (Deacon John), Pastor David Stewart (Cheryl), Mary Stewart (Tom), Barbara J. Krams (Robert), Phillip J. Stewart (Anne) and Jennifer Matilla (Tomas) and the late Michael J. Stewart; grandmother of 26 grandchildren and many great and great-great-grandchildren; sister of Doris Darg and the late Lillian, Edwin and Ron. Friends may call Tuesday from 12-2 PM at the DIETRICH FUNERAL HOME INC., 2480 Kensington Ave., Amherst, where prayers will be offered at 2 PM, followed by a graveside service at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance & Christian Charity, 4421 Lower River Rd., Stella Niagara, 14144. Mrs. Stewart, being thoroughly versed with 6 language capacity, worked for British Intelligence in Tripoli, where she met her now departed husband. Following her husband’s death in Germany in 1963, she returned to Tonawanda, NY to raise their 11 children in their family home. She had an established career as executive secretary to the president of Rosary Hill College, currently Daemen College of Amherst, NY. She retired comfortably to Florida in 1978.
