www.thedietrichfuneralhome.com March 27, 1932 – Sept. 26, 2016 Patricia J. Evans, former principal at Buffalo Public School 61, died Monday at Bristol Village, Clarence Center, after a brief illness. She was 84. The former Patricia Sheehan graduated from Mount St. Mary Academy. She received her bachelor of arts degree from Daemen College and continued her education, earning a master’s degree in education and one in administration from Buffalo State College. She had a lifelong career in education, beginning in 1957 as an elementary school teacher at Buffalo Public School 8. After raising her children, she returned to education as a substitute teacher at Early Childhood School 61 and moved into a permanent teacher position with pre-K students. She taught for several years at School 61 before being promoted to assistant principal and then principal. She encouraged the community to become involved early in a child’s education, by establishing a Grandparents Day at School 61. She also worked to involve community leaders in the school with her link with F.A.T.H.E.R.S (Fathers Armed Together To Help Educate Restore and Save), a group whose members participate in projects to improve the school and neighborhood environment. Her husband of 28 years, Richard Evans, died in 1988. She is survived by three sons, Richard Jr., David and Dennis; three daughters, Mary, Julie and Ellen; and 17 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Stephen Church, 2100 Baseline Road, Grand Island.
