Foundation of Western New York. Feb. 12, 1938 – Oct. 31, 2015 Philip R. Scaffidi, an architect who designed many State University of New York buildings, died Saturday at age 77. Born in Buffalo, he attended Hutchinson-Central Technical High School and was a 1959 graduate of the Cornell University School of Architecture. Mr. Scaffidi founded his own firm in 1966 and joined with Charles J. Moore in 1969 to form Scaffidi & Moore Architects, with offices in Eggertsville. He was the architect for the University at Buffalo Center for the Arts, which won a Western New York Construction Industry Award in 1987. His other UB projects include the Center for Positron Emission Tomography and the Lockwood Library addition. He also was architect for construction projects at Alfred University, Alfred State College, SUNY Buffalo State and SUNY Geneseo. He was a past president of the Buffalo and Western New York Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. He also was a past president of the Rotary Club of Amherst South and a former member of the board of directors of the Amherst Chamber of Commerce. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, the former Eleanor Bachara; two sons, Philip and Brian; a daughter, Susan Dow; a brother, Joseph; a sister, Eleanor Collesano; and two granddaughters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, 5480 Main St., Williamsville.
