Feb. 26, 1925 – April 10, 2015

Rita C. Gless of Cheektowaga, a longtime University at Buffalo employee who aided the nation’s war effort in the 1940s, died Friday in the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care in Cheektowaga. She was 90.

Born Rita Strauss in Buffalo, Mrs. Gless graduated from Mount St. Joseph Academy in 1942 and shortly thereafter went to work at Curtiss-Wright during World War II.

In 1946, she married Robert Gless, who at the time was the owner of Superior Dairy on East Ferry.

Mrs. Gless worked at UB from the 1960s through the 1980s as a clerk in the Office of Student Affairs and the Office of Veterans Affairs.

She belonged and held offices in several clubs and organizations, including the Lioness Club of Cheektowaga, the Ladies Auxiliary of the Francis J. Donovan Post and the Cheektowaga Seniors.

Mrs. Gless delighted in spending time with her family, which included seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert, who died in 1986. She is survived by three daughters, Diane Andriatch, Nancy McNally and Peggy Hillman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady Help of Christians, 4125 Union Road, Cheektowaga.
