woundedwarriorproject.org July 20, 1945 – March 17, 2015 Roger Alan Parsons of South Buffalo, a decorated Army veteran and retired City of Buffalo employee who coached youth baseball, died Tuesday in Mercy Hospital after a short illness. He was 69. Born in Enterprise, W.Va., he graduated from Shinnston High School. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 in Berlin at the Berlin Wall. He was the recipient of several awards, including Good Conduct Medal, National Defense
Service Medal, Army of Occupation-Berlin Metal, and Rifle Sharpshooter Badge. From 1987 to 2007, Mr. Parsons worked for the City of Buffalo Treasury and Collections Department as a teller, head teller, and retiring as an administrative assistant in 2007. Prior to his position with the city, he worked as a freight handler at the Greyhound Bus Terminal for 19 years, retiring in 1986. Active in the community, Mr. Parsons was a member of the South Buffalo Baseball Association, where he coached youths ages 5 to 14. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2243. He and his wife, the former Betty Stewart, recently celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary Feb. 24. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Tracy and Tammy; a son, Allan; three sisters, Stormy Schaefer, Marianne Miller and Lisa Hinckley; two brothers, Terry and Todd; and three grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Victory Basilica, 767 Ridge Road, Lackawanna.
