Sherilyn E. Smith, office manager for the law firm of Mura & Storm, died Saturday in Hospice Buffalo, Cheektowaga, four weeks after being diagnosed with colon cancer. She was 55.

Born in Rochester, the former Sherilyn Evans was a graduate of Gates-Chili High School.

She raised three sons, Joshua, Jacob and Jeremiah, in Cheektowaga.

The family lived through the tragedy of a fire at their Cheektowaga home in August 2015, when most of their possessions were destroyed. The home was rebuilt, however.

"She overcame the challenge of the destruction of her home," said her son, Jeremiah, who said his mother’s passion was spreading love and joy to all people.

Ms. Smith began working for the law firm in 1995.

A lifelong Lutheran, she was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Church and served on the board of the American Legal Administrators.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Holy Trinity Church, 1080 Main St.
