www.TheDietrichFuneralHome.com March 19, 1954 – Feb. 26, 2015 Steven Jay Goodman, of Clarence, a certified public accountant, died unexpectedly Thursday in Buffalo General Medical Center. He was 60. Mr. Goodman established an accounting practice in his name in Amherst in 1984 and became a certified financial planner in 2011. He served as treasurer for State Sen. Michael H. Ranzenhofer, R-Amherst, for the past five years. Born in the Bronx, he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from SUNY Plattsburgh in 1976 and came to the Buffalo area the following year. Mr. Goodman had been a member of the Amherst South Rotary Club since 1989 and served several terms as treasurer. He was a member of the Jaycees and served as treasurer for the Clarence Central Schools Band Boosters from 2001 to 2004. He had been a member of the American and New York State Institutes of Certified Public Accountants since 1981. He was a life member of the Castle Hill Jewish Center in the Bronx. An avid fisherman, boater and camper, he was a member of numerous Adirondack conservation societies and volunteered for the annual loon census in Adirondack State Park for the past five years. He was a baseball coach for the Town of Clarence Baseball Association for six years, a Boy Scout leader for Troop 664 for eight years and a member of the YMCA Indian Guides for five years. An avid Yankees and Bills fan, he held Bills season tickets since 1988. He also enjoyed traveling, cruising and fine cuisine. He was a commissioner and participant in several fantasy football and baseball leagues. He completed the Lake Pleasant mini-triathlon as part of a relay team in 2009. Survivors include his wife of 36 years, the former Barbara Malecki; two sons, Jason and Adam; a brother, Marc; and two grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Amherst, 6320 Main St.
