Arrangements by KEITH E. RAPIN. Feb. 7, 1923 – Dec. 22, 2015 Walter H. Radt of Cheektowaga, a retired truck driver and decorated World War II veteran, died Tuesday in Seneca Health Care Center in West Seneca. He was 92. Born in Buffalo, he was a graduate of Burgard Vocational High School. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served in the Army Air Corps as a radio operator with the Fifth Air Force aboard B-26 bombers in the Pacific. He attained the rank of staff sergeant and was awarded six bronze combat stars and the Bronze Arrowhead. Returning from service in 1946, Mr. Radt drove midget race cars in the U.S. and Canada. He was a truck driver for several firms, retiring from Neptune Moving in the 1990s. An avid reader and book collector, at one time he had more than 4,000 hard-cover books in his library. Later in life, his interests turned to bicycle racing and photography. He also was a dedicated Buffalo Sabres fan. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. His wife of 57 years, the former Elizabeth E. Maxwell, died in 2006. Survivors include three sons, Douglas, Keenan and Darryl; three daughters, Beverly Stawitz, Kimberly and Melody Dietrich; a brother, Richard; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 p.m. Monday in Dietrich Funeral Home, 2480 Kensington Ave., Amherst.
