Edward D. Huntley, III
October 5, 1941 – July 19, 2025
Of Snyder, NY passed away peacefully under the care of hospice at The McAuley Residence in Kenmore at the age of 83. Devoted husband for fifty-four years of Jeanne (nee Allen); cherished father of Heather (David) Batt, Edward (Anu), Colin (Lauren), Sarah (Michael) Spillman, and Caitlin (Carter) Cochran; loving grandfather of Dev and Asha Huntley, Theodore, Vivian and Owen Huntley, Delia, James and Miles Spillman and Isla Cochran. Ed also leaves behind a brother, James (Sally) Huntley, and a large extended family and many dear friends. He was pre-deceased by his parents and his sister, Virginia McAuliffe.
Ed was born in Buffalo, NY to his parents Edward and Lillian Huntley on October 5, 1941. When he was a young boy, his parents moved their family to a home in Snyder, where Ed lived for the next seventy-five years, raising his own family and entertaining his grandchildren. He graduated from Amherst Central High School and attended The University of Buffalo. Ed began a career that spanned over three decades at Brand Names Sales beginning in the mid-sixties, first as an assistant store manager and eventually becoming the photographer for the company’s annual sales catalog and print marketing materials.
When Ed was not working, he enjoyed swimming, fishing, and car racing and had an eclectic taste in music ranging from The Everly Brothers and Cat Stevens to Bob Marley and U2. He was involved with the Parents Guild at Christ the King School and served as a eucharistic minister for many years at Christ the King Church. He also volunteered as a coach with Connie Mack Little League for over a decade where he also served as a board member. In addition, Ed served on the board of directors for the West Side Rowing Club for many years before transitioning to the role of director emeritus. Ed will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, knowledge of arcane trivia, and his easy way of talking with anyone he met. He was a master raconteur whose tall tales and campfire stories have been passed down from his children to his grandchildren. Ed was most proud of his children and took every opportunity to teach and nurture them all – from coaching softball, baseball, and crew teams, to helping with cub scouts, officiating rowing regattas, and teaching Confirmation classes. He adored his nine grandchildren, and in his later years enjoyed every opportunity to spend time with them.

“In the garden of memories, he’s still with us, blooming in every smile and echo of laughter.”
Much Love
My thoughts and heart are with the Huntley family in this difficult time… Heather and her family were always kind towards me and I’ll always remember that… I’m with you all in spirit.
God Bless
I felt as if I got to know Mr. Huntley after reading this. My heart, prayers, and deep condolences go out to all who loved him. What an active and impactful life he led. I wish I had gotten to meet and talk to him personally as I think we would have gotten along well just in his taste of music alone. What memories you all have. Continue his memory and legacy in your lives as he remains in each and every life he’s touched.
My heart goes out to you all! I will always remember his smile and the twinkle in his eye. My prayers for comfort and peace are with you all in this difficult time.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to Ed’s family. I had the pleasure of serving on the West Side rowing club board w/ Ed. Ed was always a calming presence during those meetings and helped keep things in perspective. He was a regular at most regatta’s and carried that same perspective to the racecourse. My wife (Julie) knew Ed’s daughter and he always asked how she and our family was doing after every meeting. I always appreciated that.
RIP Ed.
What an inspiring testament to a life well-lived! Clearly, Ed made a very real difference in the community with his selfless contribution of time and dedication, most of which was rooted in his gentle love of family. I’m very disappointed that circumstances prevent my being able to honor this good man with my presence this weekend, but most assuredly Jeanne & all the family will be in my thoughts & prayers in Assisi.
My deepest condolences and prayers for the Huntley family. May flights of angels sing Ed to his rest.
My deepest condolences to you and your family on the loss of your dear husband. Due to a family emergency I was unable to attend.
Ed was a wonderful person. I was fortunate to get to know him when he was coaching and on the Board of Directors at the West Side Rowing Club. A quite man with the enthusiasm to help the youth. He was always around when one needed help. He was a pleasure to be around.
Our deep condolences to his family, may his good deeds live on.
