August 28, 2026, age 72. Beloved husband of Colleen (nee Murphy) Miller; devoted father of Alyson Miller, and Nicholas (Holly) Miller; proud grandfather of Bria Miller; loving brother of Kurt (Karen) Miller, Julie Schuetze, and Lisa (Matt) Stiles. Survived by several nieces and nephews; predeceased by his parents Richard A. and Marcia (nee Smith) Miller. Eric was a trusted financial planner, a kind and faith-driven man who enjoyed all things Buffalo, including the Buffalo Bills and Sabres, (while also a lifetime Boston Red Sox fan). Beyond family and friends, his first love was the game of golf, which he enjoyed locally and traveling with his son to play Pebble Beach, Old Head and Pinehurst. Eric also loved music: a shared enthusiasm with his daughter and others through singing in choirs, playing piano, and attending concerts. Eric was a devoted member of Christ United Methodist Church in Amherst, NY and First United Methodist Church of North Andover, MA. Eric enjoyed serving in Lions Club and as president of the Buffalo GYRO Fraternity. Family and friends may call Friday, September 11, 2026, from 3-7 pm at the DIETRICH FUNERAL HOMES, INC., 2480 Kensington Ave., Amherst. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 11:30 am at Christ United Methodist Church, 350 Saratoga Rd., Amherst. Please assemble at church. I loved Eric. We were schoolmates going back to elementary school at Smallwood. Him and I had discussions about dying many times. We both believed that his physical death would just be an entrance to Heaven, where he would be his mother and father and other friends again.
I too knew Eric from as long as I can remember. We used to ride our bikes up and down Lorfield Dr. he was my first “boyfriend”, not that he would have thought that, but I did! . we were often called Mutt and Jeff (I’m 5’10”) and we thought that was hysterical! When I transferred from Bishop Neuman to Amherst, Eric and I were introduced. We had friends in common and interests in common. Over the next seven or so years we golfed (he was much better than me), and enjoyed parties at the Palace of Boh. One fun “argument” we had was which one of us loved Olivia Newton-John more. Eventually careers and families spelled an end to our joint interests. We did reconnect at our classes 25th reunion. I send my most sincere sympathies to Colleen, Nick and Alyson, Julie, Kurt and Lisa. I will always remember the good times spent with this smiling guy. Go rest high on that mountain Eric.
I held his hand and told him it’s okay to go. I told
Him to go help grandpa sweep his porch in heaven and get grandma an ice cream. I told
Him to give hugs and kisses to all our pre predeceased dogs. While holding his hand and telling him I love him for the millionth time while kissing his hand, he then took his last breath and left his suffering into internal heavenly life.
Our condolences to Eric’s family and we wish you the best as you adjust to his passing. I knew Eric well from Mount Union and the SAE fraternity. I have not done well with keeping in touch with college friends but cherish the time we spent together.
