www.TheDietrichFuneralHome.com Jack Hohl of Clarence, who owned and operated Hohl Industrial Sales Company and was active in Mel Ott Little League in Amherst, died Monday following a short illness. He was 85. Born in Buffalo, Mr. Hohl was a 1949 graduate of Tech High School. In 1947, he had begun work as a shop assistant for a Buffalo Industrial machinery company, working for his brother Frank Hohl who launched that company in 1945. He began working full-time there in 1949, learning machine shop skills, welding, and the art of the millwright. In 1950, Hohl Industrial Sales Company was formed. Mr. Hohl was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952. Due to his fabricating and engineering skills, he was not placed into active duty and instead, was sent to Munich, Germany where he worked for the U.S. Army welding, fabricating machinery and vehicles used in battle during the War. After returning from duty in 1954, he went back to work at Hohl Industrial. Mr. Hohl married the former Ann Titorenko in 1955. During the 1960s, he pursued his mechanical engineering degree at the University at Buffalo while taking on greater responsibility at Hohl Industrial. He found time to pursue community service, coaching youth baseball and softball from 1967 to 1979 at Mel Ott Little League, where was a member of the league’s board of directors and served as president. During the 1980s, Mr. Hohl and his son David purchased Hohl Industrial from his brother Frank. As president and CEO, Mr. Hohl oversaw the construction of a new company headquarters in Tonawanda. In 1997, Mr. Hohl handed off the reigns of the company to his son. In addition to his son, he is survived by his wife of 61 years; a daughter, Cheryl Johnson; and a sister, Kay Stanton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Nativity of Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 4375 Harris Hill Road, Clarence.
