TheDietrichFuneralHome.com Sept. 12, 1952 – Oct. 22, 2016 Mary E. Roche, of North Buffalo, a lawyer specializing in estate planning, trusts and estate administration, died Saturday in Select Specialty Hospital, Erie, Pa., after a lengthy illness. She was 64. Born in Buffalo, the former Mary Engler was the daughter of George Engler, chief clerk of Erie County Surrogate Court and was a graduate of Nardin Academy. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University at Buffalo in 1974 and her juris doctor degree from the UB Law School in 1977. Admitted to practice in 1978, Mrs. Roche was affiliated with the Saperston & Day law firm from 1978 to 1990. She then became a partner in the Buffalo firm of Lippes, Silverstein, Mathias & Wexler, where she established the Estate and Trust Department. An accomplished attorney, she gave dozens of lectures and published several articles on legal matters. She was listed among Super Lawyers of Upstate New York from 2008 to 2010. She was a board member of the Hauptman-Woodward Medical Research Institute and a member of the Financial Planning Counselors of Western New York and the Estate Analysts of Western New York. She was a former director of the Western New York Planned Giving Consortium. She also was a member of the Erie County and New York State Bar Associations, the Women’s Bar Association of Western New York, the Women’s Lawyers Association and the Coalition of Western New York Medicaid Advocates. She served on the Erie County Surrogate Court Liaison Subcommittee and the Practice and Procedure in Surrogate’s Court Committee. She also served as a referral attorney for several eldercare associations and community agencies. The mother of four, she enjoyed vacationing in the Adirondacks and cooking. She was noted for her apple pie and Heath bar cake. Survivors include her husband, Paul; three sons, Jason, Nicholas and Andrew; a daughter, Carin; her mother, Marie Engler; her stepmother, Eleanora Engler; two sisters, Kathy Hunt and Barbara Pollack; and two brothers, Bob Campbell and Ken Campbell.
Services will be held at 11 a.m Friday in Dietrich Funeral Home, 2480 Kensington Ave., Amherst.
