ALWAY – Peter Charles
Gently passed away in
his home in Suisun
City, CA on December
4, 2017, after a long
illness. “Oh, Peter! We
will miss the way you
always made us laugh!”.
His loving wife, Donna (Miller) Alway
commemorated their life of 50 years
together by dedicating him “from my
arms to God’s arms.”
Peter’s life began in Buffalo, NY in
1941, the oldest son of Harold and Lew
Alway. Peter graduated from Amherst
High School, followed by enlisting in
the U.S. Navy at age 17, where he
trained as a Corpsman. His tour of duty
included a deployment aboard the USS
Currituck during the Viet Nam War.
Upon returning home, Peter continued
to work in the medical field at E.J. Meyer
Memorial Hospital in Buffalo. In 1967
he married Donna Lynn Miller (Grand
Island, NY ) and continued his education
at the University of Buffalo, earning
a Bachelor of Science in Nursing,
graduating in 1971. At that point, he
returned to duty as a commissioned
officer in the Navy Nurse Corps,
stationed at Bethesda Naval Hospital.
After two years of service, Peter went
to work for Allergan Pharmaceuticals
in Connecticut, where Peter’s first son,
Philip, was born. The family moved back
to Buffalo for a brief period where son,
Garrett was born, then onto California.
Peter’s professional career in sales
ended and he returned to the nursing
field in various mental health facilities
throughout Solano County, including
being on staff at Solano County Jail, as
a mental health counselor.
Peter was active with his boys in Boy
Scouts in Pack 92 and Troop 272. He
always enjoyed camping and fishing,
and watching his grandchildren grow.

Miller) Alway; father of Philip P., DPM
(Tiffany, DPM) Alway and Garrett P.
(Jeannie Falcon) Alway of Eureka, CA;
stepfather of John Summers of Victor,
NY; grandfather of seven grandchildren
and two great- grandchildren. Brother of

A ceremony honoring Peter’s veteran
military service was held on November
13, 2017 by the Sutter Hospice staff and
was attended by Peter and his immediate
family and friends. A celebration of his
life will be held at Sacramento Valley
Veteran’s Cemetery in Dixon, CA on
January 2, 2018. Memorials can be
