Dr. Robert A. Baumler, a retired cardiologist and Buffalo physician, died on March 7 in Meadow Ridge, Redding, Conn., after a short illness. He was 89.

Born in Buffalo, Dr. Baumler was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute and Canisuis College. He earned his medical degree in 1952 from the University of Buffalo Medical School.

Dr. Baumler was a private practitioner of internal medicine and cardiology and was on the staff of the Buffalo General Hospital until 2007, when he retired.

He was a fellow of the American College of Physicians, American College of Cardiology and the Council for Clinical Cardiology of the American Heart Association.

He also was a clinical assistant professor of medicine at the UB School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.

Dr. Baumler was past president of the Buffalo Academy of Medicine, the Western New York Affiliate of the American Heart Association and Medical Alumni of the UB Medical School.

He was a longtime member of the Buffalo Museum of Science.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, the former Jane Hatch; a daughter, Ann Baumler Harrington; one brother, Raymond; a sister, Marjorie Baumler Edwards; and two grandchildren,

Services were held in Buffalo on March 14.
