My Aunt Sonia was a wonderful woman . She was the elementary teacher every parent wants for their child. She was sociable, vibrant, energetic, bhighly intelligent and always upbeat and optimistic. Organized to a fault, with her basement lined with shelves of identical boxes labeled with their contents, most of which were for her classroom activities. She loved to travel, and her home was filled with works of art, ceramic pieces, and books from her travels. Her collies were her pride and joy, beautiful , and garnering many medals for obedience. Cooking was her passion . She was amazing, with an entire room filled with shelves of cookbooks. She gave many cooking classes, even did some morning TV spots on a local station. When visiting ,we were always treated to gourmet meals and the most wonderful desserts. She really enjoyed desserts, and wine, as she was happy to point out! Her taste in art, furniture, clothing, was impeccable. She was one of the most caring people I have ever met. Always tried to find the best in people. Always had a smile, and was a friend to all. She will be very much missed.
Aunt Sonia was the embodiment of joy in spite of everything. Even when facing the physical, mental, and emotional challenges of aging (and many struggles before that), she has been persistently passionate about remaining, as she would call it, “perky.” She was endlessly fascinated about the world – its art, food, music, and culture – and always curious about other people. Even in her final weeks, she was thrilled to be making new friends. I’ve been striving to live as joyfully as she has and to make others feel as good as she did.
